Love yourself to love others.
One method I have read recently to promote better relations amongst family and work colleagues, and therefore, make it a better world is that one needs first to love one's own self before one can feel compassion and empathy with others.
Loving one's own self is not meant to be in a vain, narcissistic way.
Rather, one thinks, "What do others see wrong in me?"
Then you identify those feelings in you, and say sorry to yourself for those feelings.
Then you seek your own forgiveness for having those troublesome feelings. You did not know any better.
Then you love yourself, with those harmful feelings.
You then look for what you have for to yourself that expresses that love you have proclaimed to yourself.
I ask myself, as proof of loving myself, 'Did harm my body with smoking or alcohol or eating the wrong foods, or by overeating?
Did I exercise control over my actions, feelings?
Did I win over procrastination by tackling work I felt aversion to, but knowing it needed to be done any way?
Did I pamper myself, by giving myself a luxury, or relaxing (wasting time) without feeling guilty?"
In some way show that you love yourself.
Then will you be able to love others.
When you love others, friction in relations will soothe away, making it a better world for all.
