New Year, New You

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?" All World One Happy Family.

You will find in this blog my suggestions as to how to make our world a better place to live in.
I largely restrict myself to the first step of this grand aim, by examining how I may improve myself, and thus, make this a better world, at least, for me.

My underlying wish is that you, too, may want to adopt some of the suggestions I propose to your own needs, and thereby make your world, too, a little bit better for you.

A joke: My neighbour's dogs has a habit of yelping away late into the night. One day I picked up the courage to tell the neighbour that he should do something to quieten up his dogs at night, they were a nuisance, keeping me up all night.
The neighbour retorted, "What's wrong with you buddy? Don't you know dogs bark. That is their nature."

A NEW YEAR, A NEW YOU.

I want to have a new me for the new year. No more sorrow for lost time, for lost opportunities, for bad habits.

I want to break out of my old thoughts, and ideas. I want to have the courage to leave my comfort zone, and push into unchartered territories, that would help me develop new skills.

One thing is sure, if I keep doing the same as i did all of last year, I will have the same result for me as I had for the year gone by, namely, having done nothing to be proud of.

Like a moth emerging from a cocoon as a bright butterfly, I want to be free of the shackles of my glum despondency, of my past failures, and fly off onto new ventures with vigour and joyous freshness.

One way I can break out of my bad habits is to analyse, carefully, what I gain by persisting with my bad habits. Once I know what my secret gain is, then I should be able to decide if I want that gain, or let it go. It should then be easy for me to break out of the bad habit.

As an example, in my own situation, it may be that I continually perform less than my abilities, and earn less money than I could, keeping me poor, because my gain is that I do not have to spend money on luxuries, and extravagant expenses.

That way I am able to be frugal, be careful with my money, and maintain the "a penny saved is a penny earned" motto. That is what my elders taught me, as I was growing up. Being careful with money was a measure of my being clever, smart, and a success.

May be my earning just enough to live at a normal level allows me to fulfil those secret criteria for me of success, and achievement, even though I often feel bitter at my poverty.

Assuming there is some truth in my reasoning, I will, in the new year, be not afraid to spend money. I will still not spend more than I have, be careful with my money, but noting that I can increase my earnings, and then will happily "waste" money and not feel bad for doing so.

My joy in exposing my heart thus is that you, too, if you are in much the same boat as I am in, may, by adopting a similar reasoning, be able to gain a lot of wealth in the new year.

Wishing you every success. Shree-1

Organising Intelligence everywhere.

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A better World?" All world one happy family.

I am always amazed as to why a particular living thing has the shape that it has. A blade of grass is different to a leaf of an apple tree. Or, an apple is different to an orange. One particular finger of ours is just that longer than others, but then it is the same length on the other hand.

What is the organising intelligence that tells a growing cell st one edge of a blade of grass to stop growing, while the one next to go on growing in the other direction, so that the overall shape of the blade of grass is maintained.

At a higher level, the outline of an ash tree is characteristic of an ash tree. This shape is maintained even when the tree is young, as much as when it is its full height. Some thing tells a cell at the end f a bottom branch to grow no more, to ensure the shape of the tree in space.

Further still, the profile against the skyline of a bunch of trees on top of a hill will be unique for that particular group of trees. The profile of a line of silver ash trees on a hill would be different to that of oak trees along the hill. Each individual cell on a tree would be made to confirm its behaviour such that the shape of the whole group of trees in a hugely large space, compared with the space occupied by that growing cell, is adhered to.

The organising intelligence that rules the behaviour of each cell is what marvels me.

That force is all around us. It is in us. It acts at every instant of our life.

The existence of this organising force is so obvious that we just have to acknowledge it.

Can that force organise our life to make it happier for us?

I would like to see if our religion has guidance on how to benefit from that intelligence all around and in us.

Wishing you every success, Shree-1

Opportunities are everywhere

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?" All World One Happy Family.

A Joke: A control tower operator had reasons enough to worry about a flight. His radar screen showed that the plane was well off course for a safe landing.
So he asked the pilot for an urgent reply, "Please tell me your height and position."
The pilot had no difficulty quickly responding with the exact information required,
"Height, 5' 6". Position, front left hand side seat in cockpit."

OPPORTUNITIES ARE EVERYWHERE

If you were really hungry, could you find something to eat in

bagpopole ?

That was the sort of question presented to us attendees at a self-empowering course I attended in London a few weeks ago.

The solution, for the real hungry, is finding an apple in the word above.

The lesson is that if I really want to improve my world in the next year, really want to better myself, then I will be able to seek out opportunities wherever I look.

I think I have found one opportunity to earn some money in the new year, sitting right here in my computer. I resolve to work at it, and make the opportunity bear fruit,or money, as the case may be.

I wish your world mirrors my world, and that you too see opportunities around you in the new year.

Wising you all the best, Shree-

Happy Christmas and a Healthy Happy New Year

Hello, Welcome to How Can I Make It A Better World? All World A Happy Family.

I wish you A Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year.

R.P.M.

I have several new year resolutions I want to adhere to. When I will be able to live my days according to those resolutions my world will be a better world for me.

My problem is that, until now, I have never been able to keep to my resloutions for long.

At the expensive meeting I attended in London a few weeks ago, one speaker emphasised the importance of keeping to an R.P.M. system to ensure we keep to our resolutions to improve ourselves.

He meant: R - the Result we want. Write it down, in as much detail as possible. Be clear in you mind as to what you want to achieve. Visualize you having that result.

P - the Purpose why you want that Result. Try an state all the reason why you want that result. In my case, one purpose for my resultion would be to make myself fitter.

M - the Massive Action Plan (MAP) you would develop to reach to your result.
The speaker went at great lengths to say that we have to brainstorm ourselves to think of all the ways we could reach our plan, and then decide on one to act.

Three letters, one word, perhaps is the key to make my world better in the new year.

I sincerely hope there is something new for you in this sermon I had to pay a lot of money to listen to. I want you to benefit from then lessons given to me. That will make me truly happy.

I wish you all the best. Shree-1

I want to be Happy & Contented in 2010

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I make It A Better World?" All World One Happy Family.

The starting point for making the whole world a better place to live in is to make my world a better place to live in.

If I were to record the things I do to make my world a little bit better for me, perhaps a reader of that record, who is in a similar situation to what I am in, may adopt the same methods I used, and thus, make his world a little better for him.

If I reach just that far, I will be happy enough in the new year.

A Joke: A gentleman kept putting his budgie in a goldfish bowl, without much success.
One day a visitor to his house asked him why he did not put the budgie in a cage, like every one does.
The gentleman replies, "I tried that, but the water keeps flowing out of the cage."

I WANT TO BE HAPPY & CONTENTED IN THE NEW YEAR

My first thought is, "If I want to be happy and contented in the new year, I need to amass a lot more wealth than what I have as of now."

But on reflection, I think I can be happy and contented with just what I have.

So to be happy in the new year I will change my criteria for happiness.

I will begin by thanking God for all that I already have. (As per the amazing concept
I mentioned of earlier, under title, "It Is Ready For You -Get It" on 3rd Dec 09, I will also thank God for what I will be receiving as well)

I will then be true to myself. No lies to me. If I say to myself, I will do such and such a thing, I will do it. No procrastination for me in the new year. I will not lie to other as well, giving them false promises I cannot keep.

I will keep control over my thoughts, and, thus, on my actions. So no over indulgence with my favourite food. Three, no four, or five pieces of chocolate, and no more, Means no more.
Need to wake up as soon as the alarm gets off? Total control over my thoughts! I just have to get up, then. No snooze button for me. At least, that will make me happy .

I will have an understanding of the other person's views and feelings. I will not hurt their feelings. Not get into arguments with other people.

I will be kind to others, and yet not boast about my kindness, to myself, or to others.

I will have no grudge against those who wrong me. I will truly forgive, that is, adopt truly
the wisdom of "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they are doing."

I had better stop before I make my life impossible to live in the new year.
I will be happy enough even if I can keep to only a few of these virtues.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year.

Even if Christmas means no special significance to you, please join in the rejoice of those for whom Christmas is a time to celebrate and have fun together with the family.

That may bring you some happiness.

Wishing you all the best, Shree-1

Change Your Mentality To Make Your World Better

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?" All World One Happy Family.

This blog is a one man attempt to make the world a nicer place to live in, by promoting ideas of respect, understanding and love amongst mankind.

When every one, as in a happy family, loves, and lives life to full enjoyment together, conflicts, wars, and miseries will disappear from this earth.

I also know that I can have no hope of taking this message of a better tolerance amongst mankind. The only thing I can do is to improve my world, and pass on the tools I use to others. By doing so I will make my world a better place, and, hopefully, some one else's as well.

CHANGE YOUR MENTALITY TO MAKE YOUR WORLD BETTER.

I did record earlier that if I were to keep myself financially able, then I would not be a burden to society. To make it a better world, it is almost imperative that I become wealthy.

The three day seminar I attended in London, that I mentioned of in my last blog entry, had one speaker who very eloquently explained that if one wants to increase one's wealth, one must change one's mentality.

"You cannot have a million pound business with a £5 mentality," he said.
"You must shift your thinking to a higher level."

Some of the sentences I jotted down from his two hour long lesson to us are:

Prosperity is a mindset.

You need to change your thoughts, habits, patterns of living, have positive attitudes.

What I do daily is what I become.

Do not demean yourself, saying "I am not worth it"

Think and grow rich is wrong. Think, and act to grow rich.

Keep your actions focused to what you want. Keep going towards your vision.

That was the essence of a lesson I had to pay a lot of money to attend to. Hope you can benefit from these ideas, given free to you.

Wishing you all the happiness in the world. Shree-1

Advertise to Yourself

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I make It A Better World?" All world one happy family.

You will find here suggestions to make your life fulfilled, contended, and, thus a happy one for you.

My earlier blogs can be seen by scrolling down this page, or going into "older posts" or going into the blog archives at the right of the page.

I recently attended a three day motivational conference in London. The very expensive conference was to teach me how I may overcome by limitations to succeed in life.

One of the speakers emphasised on the need for advertising to one's own self.

He said that we are bombarded with advertising messages everywhere we see, on buses, trains, on radio, television papers, you name it.

His point was, that advertising is so rampant, because it works. An advertiser, by repeatedly promoting his product to us, does persuade us to buy in to that product.

The question then was, are we using the bill board that is always in front of us to promote our own virtues?

He meant our own mind. The thoughts we live with all day long.

A lot of conference participants agreed that negative thoughts were often going around in our minds. Thoughts like, "Trust me to have messed it up." "I can't do anything right." I am hopeless at that."

The speakers simple message was that when such discouraging thoughts overcome us, we should just replace them with more positive thoughts. We could say, "I failed at that last time. But may be there is another way of doing it?"

Or, say to ourself, what outcome will please us. Then go on to see how that can be done.

We should keep repeating in our minds what we can do, and advertise to us on that billboard
that is our mind, all our positive, encouraging traits.

I wish you all the happiness in the world.

A joke: A man was fascinated by kangaroos at a zoo. His friend asked him what was so special about kangaroos. The man pointed to the sign which read, "A native of Australia," and said, "My sister married one."

How can I promote human kindness?

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I make It A Better World?" All World One Happy Family.

A joke: A town had to decide as to where a bridge may be built on the river dividing the town in two. The town mayor
asked his council of ministers, "Which side of the town has the most traffic?"
All the ministers agreed that since the commercial side of the town was mostly on the north
of the river, most traffic was on the north side of the town.
The Mayor immediately announced his decision, "in that case, it is obvious, we shall build the bridge in the north of the river."

HOW CAN I PROMOTE HUMAN KINDNESS?
All world is one global village. With the internet all world is instantly connected, like the brain and tissues of the body are all connected with nerves.
What was a mere tongue-in-cheek fantasy in my childhood days, that when one speaks on the telephone, one can also see the other person as well hear him, has come true. At the click of
a computer key, I now see, and talk with a relative in Australia, and see the baby in the house playing amongst his toys, as if the family was in my living room. Incredible!

The World Climate Change conference in Copenhagen, has, in my mind, made it amply clear, that every one acknowledges that the whole globe is now one village, intimately connected all over the globe.

Real progress now will happen when everyone looks to everyone else as a member of the global family. All mankind will show love and kindness to every other person. Each individual should treat another individual with respect, courtsey, and understanding.
No one will, even think, of harming another.
Yet, if one does wrong to another, the person who felt being wronged, would reason with the other person, and try to set the matters right. If not, the wronged person should have the courage and strength to forgive the, from his point of view, the wrong doer.

I will then have my world where there is happiness, and joy in every soul's heart.

How can I promote every one to behave in such a humanly way?
Can a new religion be created, which lays down the principles of good relationships between man? There are learned men in our universities and as heads of religions, who are aptly suited to create a new charter for a happy global village life.

Will you please, be able to add your feelings on how one can create a loving
friendship all world over? Please click on the commen box of this blog.

Thank you for reading this entry.

Wish you all happiness in the world. Shree-1

Purpose of Life? It is what you make it!

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?" All world one happy family.

On this site you will find some suggestions as to how to make this, our world, a better place to live in.

The suggestions are very mundane. They deal with my day to day feelings and activities. The
rationale is that by controlling my feelings and activities I can make my world a better place to live in, for me.

If a reader of these pages is in a similar situation to what I am in, and should he adopt any of my suggestions, perhaps his world, too, will be a little better for him.

As far as I am concerned, I then have done something to make this a better world.

PURPOSE OF LIFE? IT IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT.

I used to agonise a lot over the purpose of life. I used to say to myself, "If only I could know the purpose why I am here, on this earth, I would be able to work to my fullest potential to fulfil that purpose, and thus feel happy and contented."

For most of my life I drifted along, without any particular aim, coping poorly with whatever I was obliged to do, hoping life will show me its purpose for me.

At some stage I thought the purpose was to be one with the ultimate source of all creation. That is, in my being able to still all my mental activities, and just recognise the Creation of the Universe in my very soul. I tried meditation as a means of getting to that stage. But to reach that stage needs more concentration of thought and devotion to that aim than I could muster up under the pressures of daily work.

That, to merge with the Creator, may well be the ultimate purpose of life. On the other hand, the true purpose may well be beyond human understanding.

Now I know that the purpose of my life is what I make it to be. I have to be the person I want to be. When I take my last breath, I should feel happy that I did the best of what I set out to do. God will not ask me why I was not a Saint? God will want to know why I was not me.

I am reminded of a smoker who went to a psychaitrist to be cured of his smoking addiction.
The psychaitrist asked his patient as to why he smoked.

The patient said, " I do not know why I smoke. You are the doctor- you tell me why I smoke."

My waiting for God to give me an answer to my purpose in life was like the patient asking the doctor for his purpose of smoking.

I now know my purpose is to be fit and healthy, and be creative, to be able to put into words,
my thoughts and feelings. Tied in with that effort is the hope that my concepts,
learnt in a long life, may help someone else improve their life for the better.

I now try to live to that purpose, and oddly enough, I find enjoyment in doing so. To that extent, my world is a better place to live in, for me.

Thank you for reading my article.

I wish you all the happiness in the world. Shree-1

Cultivate a Prosperity Consciousness.

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?" All World One Happy Family.

My aim is to see a world for our future generations where there is peace and understanding between nations, where love conquers all disagreements between people.

Obviously, I can have no control over how others will think and act. The only control I can have is how I think, and live my life. So, in wanting to make the world a better place to live in for every body, I have to begin by improving my own world.

I hope that some one reading this blog, if he is at the same stage as I am in, will benefit by
adopting these ideas into his own liife.

A joke: A man walks into a dentist. He want to know how much it will cost him to have pulled out a troublsome tooth. The dentist says his charges are £100 for getting a tooth out.
The man is taken aback. "Can't you make it any less?" he asks.
The Dentist says, "I could save you the cost of an anaesthetic I would use, but it will hurt a lot.
I will have to charge for my time, say £50."
The man still persists, "Can you not make it any quicker to save your time?"
The dentist says, " For £10 I could wrench out the tooth in an instant, but it will hurt you a lot, and leave you with an ugly face."
The man agrees to that, and the dentist beckons him to the chair.
The man, at that stage, shouts out to his wife waiting outside, "Come dear, this young man will take your tooth out."

CULTIVATE A PROSPERITY CONSCIOUSNESS.

I wish I had read Louise L. Hay's book "You Can Heal Your Life" when I was still at school. She mentions of the need to cultivate a prosperity conciousness if one wants to be prosperous.
All these years I would feel very small, very defeated, a failure, when I would see a Rolls Royce car glide by when I was waiting at a bus stand. I would feel equally poor when going through the duty free shops at airports, laden with luxury goods far more expensive than they need to be. My radio at home was purchased for £5. Here were radios costing £250 plus!
I could never imagine spending money on myself for frivolous unnecessary unproductive, in terms of money, entertainment. Yet I would read in newspapers of people having paid £50.00 for a ticket for WestEnd shows, performing to packed houses.

Who were these people, with endless money to spare, and to spend on themselves?

At every moment I was acutely feeling my poverty, my lack of money, my inability to earn money.

Louise L. Hay says that such poverty cociousness keeps one poor. She suggests cultivating a rich feeling, where you thank the Lord for all that you already have, and to say to yourself, "I will be able to afford these things, when and if I want to." Instead of grudging the daily expenses, she suggests, we should part with our money with grace, and with the knowledge that more will surely come our way.

Louise L. Hay says she overcame her poverty by cultivating a prosperity conciousness - a feeling that she was rich, and when paying her bills, she was making way for more money to come and replace that which was being spent. She felt herself being rich, and thanked God for her riches.

She obviously had to do something to change her poverty, but she says she was led to those opportunities, and actions by forces beyond human understanding.

Louise L.Hay was promoting something quite opposite to the poverty I felt all the time.

I will from now on try to cultivate that prosperity conciousness, and see what happens.

Thank you for reading this entry.

Wishing you all the best, Shree 1

Be a Good Citizen.

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A better World?" All World One Happy Family.

On this site I record my thoughts on how I can make the world a better place to live in, for us, and for our future generations.

I dearly hope that you, too, will want to add your thoughts to this blog. You may do so by going into the comment box at the bottom of this page.

One simple way I can make our world better is, of course, by my becoming a good citizen of the country I live in.

I should obey the laws of the country - drive on the right hand side if that is the law of the land. Pay the taxes due, and commit no crime.

I should not drop litter in public places, ensure my carbon foot print is low, by acting on the suggestions put out by my government, such as recycle appropriately, and reuse shopping bags.

As a good citizen I will also respect the needs of my fellow citizens - not make noise in public places, and be kind and courteous to others.

At any stage of my waking hours I can decide to be a good or a bad citizen by my actions - the situations where I can be a good citizen are that many.

By choosing to be a good citizen, I will make my world a better place to live in.

Joke: A man was always bemoaning his ill luck. Every morning he had to climb the steps all the way up to the 20th floor where his office was. He would arrive at his desk, gasping for breath, and already tired at the beginning of the day.

In the evening, when he was never in a rush, he could just sail down to ground floor on in the lift.

Poor thing! Why could he not take the lift to his 20th floor office in the morning?
Because God had made him only four feet tall, and try, as he might, he could not reach up to the 20th floor button of the lift.

Thank you for reading this entry.

Self Discipline is Self Freedom

Hello, and welcome to ""How Can I Make It A Better World?" All world one Happy Family.

At this site you will find my thoughts on how to make this, our world, a better place to live in, for us, and for our future generations.

I cringe with sorrow when I hear of bombings and war killings in the world news every day. It saddens me when I hear of family feuds. It breaks my heart when I hear of some one having had to undergo, and then bear, the distress of a divorce.

How could such situations be allowed to develop? What can be done for maturity of reasoning to prevail, when there is a difference of opinions, at any level, at a level of nations to levels of individuals.

Regrettably, I can offer no teachings to world decision makers, (they are far far more knowledgable) or tell others how they should think and behave.

So I am left with having to change my thinking and behaviour, and thus improve my world.

My recording those improvements I make to myself on this blog is with a hope that
some one else will also feel the way I do, and may find an inspiration to change his/her thinking and actions to make his/her world a little bit better to live in.

A Joke: A child is saying to his friend, "I want to report my Mum and Dad to the Police for cruelty to me." His friend wants to know what had happened.
The reply, "They send me off to sleep early, when I want to watch the tv, and force me to get up in the morning, when I just want ot stay in bed."

SELF DISCIPLINE IS SELF FREEDOM.

For many years of my life I used to be annoyed with having to do things I did not want to do.
I hated having to tidy up my room when I wanted to read a story book, or to have to go shopping when I wanted to lazy around at home.

I always felt being forced to do thiongs I did not want to do. I always seemed to be forced into doing something that I wanted to do at a later time.

To do anything there and then required great mental fortitude. To discipline myself was like tying myself up with ropes. It took away my freedom. Descipline meant being tortured into doing things I hated to do at that moment.

Now I know that discipline is quite the reverse. It allows me to do what I want to do. If I want to wash the car, I do it. Read a book, but more urgent to go out in the rain to do shopping first?
No problem. I can do the shopping now. Do that which is more sensible

Having a disciplined mind gives me freedom to finish the works I have started doing. Or do the
works I had kept off for ages from starting. My time keeping is improved. My habit of procrastination, which used to cost me a lot in agony any feelings of uselessness, has almost gone.

I want to do some work? Or I need to do some work? O.K. I do it. That's it. No hurt or frustration.

Hope you already have a better life because you are disciplined in your thoughts and actions.

Wishing you all the best, Shree 1.

A moment of Joy in a Day will make it a Better World.

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?" All World One Happy Family.

I wish in this world there will be no conflicts, no inhumanity of man against man.

This world would then be a truly wonderful place to live in for every one.

If I can only improve my way of living, if only I can find even a few moments of joy in a day,
I would have made my world a better place to live in. This would be one tiny tiny step towards making the whole world a better place to live in.

Today I found my moment of joy in appreciation of some wonderful lyrics of a bollywood film song. The poet who penned those lyrics was close to the divine powers of creativity when he
thought up those lyrics. Some one else equally in touch with divine powers set the words to music. A singer equally fortunate added her voice, and a work of equisite beauty was recorded. I was fortunate enough to have enjoyed, for those few moments the song lasted, that union with the divine that had inspired those artists.

For those moments, my world was a nicer place to live in.

I hope you, too, can improve your world by finding in your day some moments of joy in appreciation of art or music.

A joke: An Asian elderly lady went to see an optician to have her eye sight tested. As she was being shown to her seat in front of the eye-sight letters charts, she asked the optician if her husband could be allowed into the room.

By this time her husbad had let himself into the room all the same. So the optician was understandably confused. "Who is the appointment for? You, or your husband?"

The husbad answered, "The appointment is for my wife. But she cannot read English, so I will read the letters for her."

I wish you every happiness. Shree 1

It Is Ready For You. Get It!

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?" All World One Happy Family.

Here you will find some ideas to allow you to develop to your full potential, to make your world a better place to live in.

To get to know all of such empowering ideas presented here up to now, please explore the articles from Oct. 09, and Nov. 09, by going through the Archives section on the right of this screen.

It is Ready For You. Get It!

I came across an amazing concept of the Universe, and man's relation to it, in a magazine article the other day.

According to this concept, the source of all Universe is of the same nature as the nature of
our own thought. This Thought want to go on expanding, increasing, filling up all possible space.
That is its very nature. This would explain why physicsts trying to apply mathematical formulas to the existence of the Universe come up with equations which point to the possibility of
other Universes, composed of substances which we cannot even imagine, existing in parallel with this Universe of stars and galaxies that we can see.

This same Thought wants to expand and express itself through every living thing. So, when
I want to better myself by having a fitter body, or accumulate material wealth, I am being
an expression of the Thought that is the foundation of all Universe, acting out its own intrinsic property through me.

The Universe wants to fulfills expand and express itself in every possible way through me.

So I need not feel I am being selfish or greedy if I wish to better my physical and material well being. The Universe will create anew my wants from within itself. I will not have to deprive anyone else for me to get what I want. There can be more than ample for the other person as well.

All I need is a clear vision of what I want. The universe will want to give it to me.

As is the physical nature of matter in this universe I happen to be a part of, what I want will not materialise out of thin air because I have wished to have it. I will need action on my part to take it.

So I still need to work to get my desires fulfilled. But instead of working to strive to get something, I now need to work to thankfully receive whatever I wished for.

It is like having a number five as a result of seven minus two, or having five as result of three plus two. The number is the same, but represents two entirely different situations.

Likewise, I still have to act to fulfill my wishes, but now the attitiude is, of working to gratefully receive from the Universe what I want, rahter than having to struggle and strive, hoping that I will get what I want.

This approach of looking at Action is totally new to me. I will try that attitude to my work
and see what changes that makes to my life over the next few months andd years.

Thank you for reading my blog.

I wish you all the best. Shree 1.

I dedicate today's writings to my maternal Grand Mother, who died peacefully today aged 102 years.

For most of her life she lived in the same house in which I was born. She had a great influence on my early and childhood years. She always made me feel as if I was a special boy, destined for great things in life. Now I know that she had that inspiring feeling for everyone who came in touch with her.

May God grant her soul peace and happiness beyond our comprehension.

Where Can I Find Delightful Artwork?

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?" All world one happy family.

Here you will find some of my ideas as to how I can make this, our world, a better place to live in, for us, and for the future generations.

It is hoped that you, too, may find some inspiration herein to make your world a little better for you.

Please do give your input to this forum so that others may in some way make their world a better place to live in.

A Joke: A housewife was found one day to have gone berserk in her kitchen. She had smashed up all crockery, and was found setting the worktops on fire.

All the emergency people who came to rescue her from the burning kitchen were mystified. How could an otherwise good sensible lady go such raging mad? When questioned, her
husband said that he too, was equally surprised. "How could my wife have become so mad? After all, she has always been in that kitchen every day for the last thirty years."

Where Can I Find Delighful Artwork?

At the Modern Tate Gallery in London I saw an exhibit which was no more than a soiled and frayed ship's thick fibre rope loosely thrown about on the floor.

A messy work table of a house painter and decorator was another art work displayed.
A stone wall occupied another precious space of the building. A battered old expedition van was
a large useless piece of metal shown off as an incredulous piece of artwork. And so on,
through much of the vast Modern Tate Gallery of London.

It was obvious to me that any thing I happened to look at in my day to day living, if taken out of its context, and isolated by a space all around it, could be regarded as a piece of art, fine enough to be exhibited in the world's best galleries.

It may be that my feelings of happiness that a scene or an event gives me may be in that scene or event, just as delightful art is in that self scene, only if I were to isolate it, and look at it with a different perspective. In that case, my happiness is all around me, in everything I see, and in all that I experience.

Where then, is my theory if I were to cut my finger while chopping up my vegetables?
May be my happiness would be in the sympathy and attention I will get from my family, from being excused from doing the washing up, and in my being more mindful when I next cut vegetables with a sharp knife.

So, perhaps, my theory is correct.

My happiness is, indeed all around me.

Thank you for reading this blog.

I wish you all the best. Shree 1

Do I Fight An Idea With Weapons?

Hello and "Welcome to How Can I Make It A Better World?" - All World On Happy Family.

Here I present my ideas, as they occur to me, as to how I can make this, our world, a better place to live in, for us, and for the generations to come.

Today I happened to see a telecast of a Remembrance Service held byIndia at Gateway of India in Bombay from where a year ago Terrorists landed to carry out their horrendous deeds ending in deaths and injuries at railway stations and the burning of the Taj Hotel.

A speaker at the ceremony, no less than a number one cinema star proclaimed that Terrorism has become a religion for some people. He had no hesitation in supporting any actions taken to destroy that religion he named Terrorism.

My problem with that line of reasoning is that, it goes against the principles of brotherly love I want to have through out the world. I do not advocate destroying another person, simply because that person's beliefs and actions are harmful to others.

Since 9/11. the West took that approach of destroying terrorism. To date, after some thousands of deaths on both sides of the conflict, and some untold billions having been spent in fighting that war to destroy terrorism, has there been a success in that objective?

In fact, a war like that sows the seeds of another war, when a new generation grows up wanting to avenge the wrongs, from their point of view, inflicted to their forefathers.

I am far too an ordinary man to have any expertise to find an appropriate solution to this wrath of Terrorism. But it amazes me that people in great authority and power, and with scholarly learnings, cannot come up with a suitable way to bring reasoning to all sides of a conflict.

In Ben Hur, the movie, there is a dialogue which goes something like this.
"How can you fight an idea.?"
The answer is, "Certainly not with weapons. You fight an idea with another idea."

May be the world now needs a new World Religion which picks and amalgamates the peaceful and love amongst mankind aspects of all world religions into new World Religion.

Then we can make it a a better world.

Thank you for reading this entry.
Wishing you all the best. Shree-1

Where Can I be Happy? Right where I am.

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?" - All World One Happy Family.

In this blog I formulate my ideas about how to make our world a happy place to live in, for us, and for all future generations.

Every time I hear of a suicide bomber some where in the world, killing himself by inviting onto himself unimaginable pain, in order to kill many others, I am overpowered with sadness. What agonies must that person have had to endure to have to resort to such horrendous solutions to end those miseries. Could something have been done to make him view his predicament in a way that he did not feel so agonised by that situation?

Could something have been done to prevent the situation that made that person feel so hurt in the first place?

I feel the sad when I hear of family feuds, or of petty quarrels robbing one of joy of living.

Regrettably, there is nothing I can do that can make another person think and behave differently to what they want to do. So I am reduced to changing my attitudes and behaviours, thus making my world a better place to live in.

The secret hope behind putting these thoughts on this blog is that some one else may agree with my feelings, and thus, make his world a better place to live in.

Where Can I be Happy? Right where I am.

For decades of my life, I used to think that I could only be truly happy if I was to live
in the land of my birth. That happens to be a city in Western India, in Gujarat.

After being brought up in in the U.K. I chanced to visit my birth place. There, walking along the narrow passageways of the town, I happened to see an elderly man,
in his white dhoti and tunic, seated on the swings in centre of his living room, totally relaxed. He seemed absolutely contented, completely at peace with himself.

I assumed his being so sublimely happy was because he was at one with his environment. (About this time a book called "Roots" about Africam Americans rediscovering their past was in vogue)

Now, after many years of frustrated living trying to find myself being at one with my environment, I have discovered that it is not the place where I am that determines my happiness, but my own thinking that decided how at ease with myself I feel.

Now I can be at peace with myself, like the image of the man I had seen so many years ago, wether I am along the sandy beaches of a tropical island, or in a park in Surrey, or easier still, in my own living room.

Wherever I am, I can observe the beauty of the world around me, and marvel at the
magic behind whatever I sense and see. I can be at one with the world, be at ease with my self, where ever I am.

My world is now a better place to live in since I have recognised that I can be happy wherever I am.

The Importance of Maintaining Awareness.

Hello and welcome to 'How Can I Make It A Better World?" All world one Happy Family.

I have had a reader tell me of a Tibetan parable that beautifully illustrates the powers one can achieve if one can habitually remain totally aware behind one's actions.

The story goes that one student of a monastery in Tibet was extolling to a student from another monastery the virtues of his master. His master, the student was saying, had so well developed his powers of the mind that he could run for hours over hills and valleys, and his feet would not even touch the ground.

The other student says, "Oh! That is nothing compared with what my master can do.
My master, when he listens, he listens, when he speaks, he speaks, when he talks, he talks, and when he sleeps, he sleeps."

The Skill of Enjoying Every Day

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?" All world one happy Family.

To make it a better world for you and me, and for our future generations, we need every one in the world to think the whole world as one family. To show love and respect to every one else. Not to have any bitterness against anybody. To be willing to help any other in need.

All these things require that the other person, as well as me, has to behave in a certain way. I have no control over how the other person behaves. So I am reduced to only changing my ways, and hoping that in doing so, I will at, least make it a better world for me.

It is likely that in these ideas to improve myself, you may find some tips to allow you to develop to your full potential, and thus to make it a better world for you.

You may want to catch up on earlier entries on this blog by following the links in Blog Archive to the right of this page.

I'll begin with a joke about the lady of the house. She was fed up with the laziness and the sloppiness of her maid servant. So she warned her, "I will soon have to find a new maid."
And the maid says, "That is a good idea, Madam. I could do with an extra pair of hands around the house."

The Skill of Enjoying Every Day

The skill is being able to be aware of all your thoughts and actions. To be mindful at all times of what you are doing.

One advantage of you being fully aware of your action is that you will enjoy that awareness. Imagine I hate wall papering my room. But were I to do so, remaining totally aware of my actions as I did so, I will enjoy the awareness behind the action, and so, in a fashion, enjoy doing my work as well.

Another advantage of being totally mindful of all your actions at all times is the immense saving of time and frustration because otherwise you are always having to look for lost keys, wallet, papers, doors left unlocked, and so on.

This is a skill like, say, like riding a bicycle. It is not difficult. It has to be learnt by repeatedly practicing it. Once learnt, it will stay with you for ever.

You will save time by not having to look for lost things, and enjoy every day because you will put your very being into all you do.

Mentally Welcome HEALTH Into Your Mind And WEALTH Into Your Home

Hello and Welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World" - Whole world a Happy Family.

Here I formulate my ideas as to how I can improve myself so that I can bring about this Utopian state for our world. I am also hoping that you, too, will find something in these jottings that will enable you to develop your potential to its full.

You are also welcome to add your feelings about these matters by going into the comment box of this blog.

Please scroll down to get to the very beginnings of this blog entries. Thank you.

A joke for you: A thief was very pleased with his midnight smash and grab job at a high street jewellers. But, oh dear, just as he was sliding along the dark alleys
near his secret hide out, he heard the shrill of a police whistle, and the booming challenge of a policeman, "Stop! Who goes there?"
Fearing that, with the loot still on his back, his game was up, he answered back rather truthfully, "A Thief."
The policeman said, "What! Another nut on my patch! Be off with you quick,
before I arrest you for wasting police time."

Welcome HEALTH into your Mind, and WEALTH into your home.

I remember reading an article in a respectable magazine a long time ago saying that one way of improving your health is to make your health into an imaginary person. Then welcome that person into your mind and into your body frequently every day.

I never took that idea on board then, but I might as well give it a try now.

A personification of health that comes to mind is Atlas, the titan of Greek mythology who holds the globe on his back. With my aim, the title of these writings, Atlas seems an appropriate image of Health that I can use. So, every time I look in the mirror, or at my shadow on the street, or my reflection in a shop window, I will welcome Atlas into my body.

The article went on to say that one can increase one's wealth as well by adopting the same trick. Personify wealth, and mentally welcome Wealth into your home every time you open your house door. For me, a fine picture for Wealth is the Goddess Laxmi of Indian mythology. So I will welcome Laxmi into my home every time I open the door.

Assuming that you too, are in search of better health and more wealth, you might also want to give this strategy a try.

Then at the end of a decent period of trial, say three or six months, we could exchange our experiences with the experiment.

Wishing you every success with your aims. Shree-1

Control your Thoughts to Make It A Better World For You

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?" - All world One Happy Family.

In this blog I attempt to make the world a nicer place to live in, for us, and for the future generations.

I welcome your input to this aim by your adding your comments on this blog.

To see this page from its very beginnings, please scroll down the page to the October 09 entries.

Thank you.

A joke to begin with. Joke: A woman was receiving her husband at the airport. She could not help notice that he was expressing no joy at being together with her again, She said, "Look dear at that couple there. See how happy that man looks with his wife there. Cant't you be like that?"
The husband says, "Sure, but just see that he is saying good-bye to his wife. She has come to drop him off.

Control Your Thoughts To Make It A Better World For You

The ideas of the last blog keep whirring in my mind.

It is how you interpret an event that happens to you that decided what feelings the event gives you.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The happiness a little boy gets from his birth day gift bicycle is not in the bicycle. Its in the boy.

These feelings, though, are no more than thoughts in a mind.

So if I can control my thoughts, I can control my feelings.

If I control my feelings, I can control my actions. Then I can stop myself lashing out at
at some one in anger because that person has just wronged me.

Perhaps herein is the seed of making my world a better place to live in.

My next task - how to learn to control my thoughts.

I Decide How I React To Events

Hello and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World" - All World One Happy Family.

To begin with, a joke:

Having worked all life long a man amassed himself a fortune, and felt he now deserved himself a settled married life. So he married a stunningly beautiful and charming lady. He soon found out that his lovely new wife had the misfortune of having had three husbands, all quite wealthy, who all had died un-natural deaths.
To console her, over a candle lit dinner, he asked his wife how her previous husbands had died.
She said the first husband had died of food poisoning.
"And the second?"
"Also of food poisoning."
"Oh I am sorry. Did the third one die of food poisoning as well?"
"No. He died of strangulation."
"That's a tragedy. How did that happen?"
"The fool would not eat up the poisoned food I gave him."

I Decide How I React to Events.

One of the most common reasons for unhappiness in my life is anger and annoyance.
Anger, because someone has hurt me, and annoyed because things are not going my way.
I need to recognise that these feelings are really my own perceptions of what is happening to me. They are my own thoughts concerning the external events happening to me. The thoughts are mine. I should be able to control them.

One person may bemoan his ill fate that he has been blinded by an accident. Another may overcome that same ill luck and become a home minister of his country. One can be born a wrong colour, in a country where such things matter, and yet go on to study to high levels,
and then aspire to be, and become the President of his country.

I remember attending a Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism meeting at Richmond, in Surrey, where the speaker had two glasses of water on the table. In one glass in addition to the water, there was a brown sediment at the bottom. The speaker took a glass rod and stirred the water in the glass with the water alone. The water remained clear. He then, with the same rod, stirred the water in the other glass. That water became a muddy brown colour.
The lesson was simple. The glass rod, external event, was not the cause of the water going cloudy. The ultimate cause for that to happen was in the water itself. The anger shown by a person is in the person, not in the event.

There is no point saying, the other person cut me in, so I can, at the next traffic lights, pull him out of his car, and punch him up. "He made me do it- he made me angry". No, my anger was the way I responded to his action.

May be if everyone could learn to control their feelings, understand that how they react to a situation is their choice, a lot of quarrels, fighting, and misery in the world will disappear.
The world will become a better place to live in.

To learn to control one's feelings, thoughts, is one subject of meditation. That is what I will find out more about in the next few days.

I thank you for reading my blog. Please do help me along by giving me your ideas in the comment box of this blog.

Wishing you all the best, Shree-1

All World One Happy Family - How? When?

Hello, Welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?"

Here you will find my ideas as to what I can do to make this, our world, a better place to live in for us, and for the generations to come.

You may scroll down this page right to the beginning of my blog entries to pick up these threads to their roots.

I am hoping that in my lessons to myself as to how I can make this world a better place to live in, you, too, may find some thing to assist you get a better life for yourself.

Before I go on, I have to tell you that my visit to the cinema yesterday turned out to be a very expensive affair. I had to recruit seventeen passers by, and pay for their tickets as well.
Do I hear you ask me why I had to do that? The answer is simple. The picture I wanted to see clearly said "Under 18 not allowed."

A Slogan for this One World Wide Happy Family.

Having got a symbol, or a logo, for this Worl Wide Happy Family I need a slogan for that World.

Some phrases that come to mind are: World Peace Depends On Me
I can make my world happy
World Peace Today
Our World at Peace
All World One Happy Family.

Of these, perhaps the last one best reflects what I am hoping for.

Perhaps you have a suggestion which is far better.

Please do add your thoughts to this slogan by using the "comment" section of this blog.

Our world, for the rest of our lives, and for the babies born today must be a world where there is joy and love and friendship amongst all.

I must own up to a selfish trait behind that wish. My daughter today gave birth to a lovely baby boy, her first child, and our first grandchild.

I wish them, and you, all the best. Shree-1.

Designing A Symbol for 'World Peace"

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It aA Better World"

Here I jot down my thoughts on what I need to do to make this, our world, a better place to live in, for us, and for the generations to come.

Amongst these ideas of mine, I am hoping that there are some that you may want to take on for your self. You may want to do that, because implementing the ideas suggested will empower you to develop yourself to your full potential. Acting on the ideas can give you all the health, wealth and happiness that you ever wanted.

For instance, in my last blog I mention of how one way to assist you getting what you want is to visualise the the situation you want to have, in the affirmative, as if you have already got it.
Of, course, you will have to act on getting your wishes come true, as well, but keeping your aim in mind should help you get to your goals quicker.

In that blog I also mention of the fundamentals of a good diet - only eat when you are hungry, never to extreme, and drink plenty of water through out the day.

The theory of life as an ocean wave gives you the basis under which you may draw on higher powers to assist you with your life's missions.

Earlier on I list the traits normally exhibited by people who have achieved happiness and
success in their lives.

I am hoping that some of these ideas will benefit you. If so, I will happy. And a happy me will make my world a better place to live in.

A SYMBOL FOR THIS HAPPIER WORLD.

I now want to design a symbol to represent our happy peaceful world.

The one I can think of would show a group of happy dancing folks, in various national dresses, with limbs in various dancing poses, holding hands, going around the globe.
This drawing would be put on a flag. The background colours may be light blue, at the top, with stars, to represent the sky, and the lower part, deeper blue, for the sea, and green brown for land and vegetation.

One day, some day, I will learn how to paint using the tools I have on my computer, and then present you with the picture of the symbol I am thinking of.
Meanwhile, please do let me know of your thoughts on how that symbol for one peaceful, happy world may look like.

Thanking for reading this entry.

Wishing you all the best, Shree-1

It's A Lovely Home We Have!

Hello, and welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World."

In this blog I am setting down my thoughts how I can make this, our world, a nicer place to live in, for us and for the generations to come.

I also invite you to add your suggestions to my ideas.

Just for the fun of it, I'll begin this blog with a simple joke.

Joke: An American drives home in a brand new car. His wife is astonished. How could he have been so foolish as to increase their monthly repayments.
To ease her anxiety, the man says, as he comes out of the car, "Don't worry dear. The salesman only wanted one initial down payment. He doesn't want any more money from us. We do not have to pay him any money at all every month."

Today I will just day dream of the world that would be a nice place to live in.

The whole world is just one big family home.
Every one will be contented and happy.
There will be enough food for every one, No one will go hungry. But people will only eat when they are hungry. They will only eat enough to satisfy their hunger - never over eat to
uncomfortable fullness. They will chew each bite of solids, till these become liquid, and chew liquids, to digest those in the mouth.
There will be enough water for everyone, and all will drink huge amounts of water every day.
Every one will love and respect every one else, even total strangers. No body would want to harm any one else. No one will want to steal, rob, maim and kill.
There will be no locks on briefcases, on cars, or homes. No nations will have any police
departments, no armies, and no weapons of mass destruction.
Time and money saved would be used for learnings of great things, for growing crops
and flowers, and for looking after the young, the aged and the infirm.

There is a teaching that if you want something to happen to you, you must visualise that
what you want by a positive affirmation, imagining that you already have what you desire.
Since I regard the whole world as one global home, and wanting to state my wishes as if already obtained, in the present, I title this entry, "It's a lovely home we have."

You can see my earlier entries by scrolling down this page.

How can I stop a person harming me?

Hello and welcome to my blog, "How Can I Make It A Better World."

This is my blog No. 5.

You may want to begin from the beginning, in which case just scroll down this blog page.

With my writings I am trying to jot down my ideas on how I could make this, our world, a better place to live in, for us, and for the generations to come.

But, I can already see how impossible that aim is. Because I cannot think of how I can stop someone harming me and others. Judging by the history of conflict and wars through the centuries, and by the conflicts around the world even today, it seems that no one has yet
truly found the answer to the problem of how to stop someone harming others.

The last blog mentions of the world being one big global family. And that our lives on this earth will eventually end with our death, anyway. Therefore, I should not harm anyone else.

That may be is something I can do. I am robbed, but I can forgive the robber, and carry on with my life, with more determination to recoup the money I was robbed of.

But what if my forgiving the robber does not stop him from robbing others?

Who decides that the action of that person was a robbery in the firstr place? That "robber" might have though my money was rightfully his. He might have wanted to rob me to give it to another person more needy than me.

And what punishment can one give to that person? Who gives that punishment? To punish the robber is effectively causing him harm and that is against our principle.

You slap me, and encouraged by my family, I hit you back, twice. So you come up with something stronger than a fist, and hit me and my family, too, for having ill-advised me.
So I muster up greater force to destroy you.

Where does it end? How can it end so that everyone comes out a winner out of the situation?

Do you have an answer to the problem? Does our relegion have an answer?

I need to a lot more studying over the next few days.

Thank you for reading this entry. Please do add your suggestions to this subject of how to
make our world a better place to live in.

See you next time. Shree-1
