Hello! Welcome to "How Can I Make It A Better World?"
All World One Happy Family
A Joke: On a bitter cold day I enjoy nothing more than a swim in the icy lake. But who am I to sin by falling to temptations? I have a warm shower!
We are being taught a corrupted message of 'The Gita.'
The joke above highlights a common misunderstanding of the message of many religions.
That it is some how anti-God to enjoy, to have fun.
When we suffer bodily austerity and pains, it is said, we are pious, showing our love to God.
I would say such a message is a corrupted message of a religion given to us by people in whose interest it is that we suffer in silence. People who are the rulers over the masses, the lords, kings, and high priests.
A similar corrupted message of the Gita is that Krishna tell Arjun to fearlessly fight, kill and maim the "enemy" because it is his duty to do so.
There are many facets to this message.
One is that should one have no pride in one's doing, and covet not for the result of one's actions, then no blame worthy of punishment may be levied against the one performing the action, however hurtful it may be to others.
I have heard such platitudes being recited in the widely popular soap serials being broadcast on Indian television.
My reaction is "How silly. how ugly, can a divine message be corrupted to."
Mystics and psychics tell us that the very essence of life is love - kindness and compassion for all life.
No religion advocates butchery of other life.
I only wish some one would be brilliant enough to explicitly convey the highest noble teachings of the great religions of the world.
